80's Astral Horror and OBE - A Nightmare on Elm Street

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Astral projection is conveyed as a theme in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Nonetheless, OBE is portrayed as an astral projection technique to astral project sleeping characters into Freddy's astral dream world. As a child, Freddy scared the crap of me. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street is an eerie astral horror movie with a disturbing dream concept.

In A Nightmare on Elm Street, any character who falls asleep will die in the dream world. Freddy's dream worlds are similar to Insidious' astral worlds. Astral projection is employed in both movies to defeat the evil antagonist. Nancy astral projects into the dream world to destroy Freddy, but she fails to realize that an astral being will not die without resolving the conflict which made them evil.

Freddy is evil because neighborhood parents burned him to death. Hence, Freddy took his vengeance out on the offspring. Every child and family member related to the parents were exposed to the dangers of the dream world. You'll notice that Nancy has an out-of-body-experience (OBE), enabling her to astral project into the dream world. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the rare astral horror movies to use the astral projection technique as a mode of travel from one world into the next.

Wes Craven also conveyed astral travel in his Shocker movie. When you look back, 80's astral horror movies are the perfect genre to demonstrate astral projection. In essence, OBE is portrayed in both A Night on Elm Street and in Insidious. Do you like astral horror? I'm confident Hollywood will release more astral films in the near future. Thanks for reading.
