Insidious depiction of Astral Projection

Insidious is an astral horror movie about unsettled astral beings stuck in the physical and astral world. Astral projection is introduced in the midpoint of the movie to entertain moviegoers interested in astral travel. Insidious manages to do a decent job depicting astral projection.

The young boy Dalton is a gifted astral traveler. It is revealed that he inherited the astral travel gift from his father, Josh. Nonetheless, Josh is unaware of his ability to astral project into various astral worlds beyond the physical world.

A psychic medium, Elise, conveys to Josh that his son astral projects to astral worlds. Therefore, Dalton ventures off so far into "The Further" that a demon holds his astral form hostage. The longer Dalton remains in the astral world, the greater chance his physical body will become possessed.

Astral projection is integrated into the movie as a form of dream projection. The recent sci-fi thriller, Source Code, employs the same dream technique, which astral projects the main character into the mind of a deceased passenger.

Astral projection occurs in the third act - the moment to which Josh accepts he must astral project into The Further to save his son. Elise puts Josh into a trance using mediation and counting methods to relax his mind. Josh sits in a chair while Elise's soft voice frees Josh mind to astral project the astral form outside of his physical body.

Josh assumes the astral projection venture is a waste of time. Nevertheless, he quickly discovers his astral form is now occupying the astral world; he is experiencing an out-of-body-experience similar to past A Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Josh watches and listens to Elise communicate with his physical body. Her voice guides Josh through the astral world to find Dalton.

Astral projection is essentially the act in which Josh leaves his body and wonders around in the astral world filled with astral beings. Thus, Josh astral projects from the chair into The Further to rescue his son. The astral world is conveyed as the realm outside of the physical world.

Whenever a person realizes their whereabouts, they are basically either having a lucid dream or an astral projection experience. It is at this moment in time they question the reality of their existent in the astral or dream world. Josh realized ahead of time that he would engage in astral projection to leave his physical body.

Once Josh rescues his son, the father and son travel back home under intense fear. Josh then confronts the old woman who had terrorized his childhood, causing him to experience night terrors. The trauma suppressed his nightmares. Despite Josh's astral travel gift, the night terrors inflicted trauma on his mind. In result, Josh's astral projection encounters to visit various astral worlds cease to exist.

Insidious depicts astral projection through showing Dalton's drawings of the astral worlds, portraying Josh's out-of-body-experience, and projecting the astral worlds filled with astral beings stuck in limbo between heaven and hell - The Further. Nonetheless, Insidious portrays astral projection as an evil act. On the contrary, astral projection is safe when one astral projects with a strong mind. Thanks for reading.
